In view of its mandate, the UNESCO Cairo office serves as a regional UNESCO office for science & technology in Arab states. Within this mandate, it receives decentralized regular programme funds to execute workplans in the specific areas of:

(1) Basic & Engineering Sciences (BES)
(2) Ecological Sciences (ECO)
(3) Earth (Geological) Sciences (GEO)
(4) Hydrological Sciences (HYD)

Dr. Radwan Al-Weshah, is in charge of area (4) and Dr. Mohamed Al-Aawah is in charge of areas (2) and (3)

In addition to the foregoing regional programmes, the UNESCO Cairo Office serves also as a cluster office for the areas of Education and Culture.

Dr. Ghada Gholam is in charge of UCO cluster activities in education while Dr. Gerard De Puymege is in charge of the cluster activities in Culture.
